Shopping in Cleethorpes

Originally the main shopping street was Sea View Street. It is a quaint area with many varied shops, including the oldest shop in Cleethorpes. There is also a more modern area called St. Peter's Avenue

Sea View Street is close to the City Centre, an old Victorian street offering antique shops, designer fashions, a themed tea room, craft shops and traditional pubs.

Seaview Street was the first main shopping street before St. Peter's Avenue was developed. Today it boasts some fascinating small shops where you can buy magic goods, craftwork, clothing, underwear, furniture for dolls houses and antiques.

The oldest shop in the street is Hermes Antiques and the oldest house is a fisherman's cottage, situated just off Seaview Street. It became a hospital during the second World war but is now a shop which houses the fascinating Bethan's Little Folk - a delightful place for those who love doll's houses and their miniature world.

Until the 1960's Water Wheel Antiques used to house a museum and before that was an abbatoir. Other buildings have connection with the butchery trade with one housing a slaughter house and another a bakehouse. Unfortunately the bakehouse burnt down in 1995.

The building that now houses Brent Electronics used to be a dairy and if you look on the doorstep you can see Meadows Dairy Co. printed on the tiles. Until the 1950's, the building now used as the Fisherman's Arms pub, used to be a row of houses. Another public house in the street, the Queens was completely rebuilt in the 1930's.

Seaview Street is proud of its heritage and holds Victorian Days when the staff of all the shops dress in Victorian costumes.

Dudley Bowers Wonderland is an all covered market, one of the best known markets in the area based on the North Promenade in the seaside resort of Cleethorpes.
